My memories of Sun...

HE ALSO SERVED, WHO ONLY STANDS AND WAITS…

Allentown, PA – 1989…DCA Prelims…4PM…in the rain!!

On the starting line…Sunrisers…blue hats…wet white plumes…orange tunics wet with sweat? No…rain!! White pants, wet white shoes…six contra bass poised with purpose…or rather posing like porpoises!!

I am dressed for the occasion…Buffalo Bill’s rain poncho…blue Sunriser baseball cap…special fan edition…Homemade!!...it’s raining. Suddenly to my left I notice another Sunriser fan…significant because there was but a handful of fans anywhere to be seen…through the rain.

The show starts…truly a Procession of the Nobles (from the earlier years)…I have to move to my friend’s side…we exchange glances…the God’s disagree and the sky really opens up! “Watch carefully,” says my new friend…The Rain Stops! Just in time for me to witness a million tiny flash cubes discharging from the field below…I thought I had died and gone to Heaven…reality soon turned…so did the rain.

After the performance I stood with my Sunriser friend and applauded, of course. We were the only fans left…in the rain. I recall my friend had sandals on and before he left, he turned and said…”See you at the Finals!” Could it really have been him? The rain had stopped.

Apparently not. I believe the Sunrisers lost out to the Bushwackers by a mere 0.1 at the finals.

I later found out that this gentle Man was non other than the Sunrisers Music Director! What an honor for me to have witnessed a show written, directed, and performed whilst standing on the right hand of…The Man.
